Hello again from Outerbox Technologies. I was going over some things on my daily cruise of the Internet when I came across a post in an SUV related web-board. Since I do not have permission from the boards owner nor the person who posted the message, I will attempt to convey the general idea of the post. It goes a little something like this. 'I can't believe Firestone would make such a crappy tire. They must not be checking the quality nor the vehicle these tires go on.' Hmm, this sounds like a classic case of under-informed LOUD mouthed consumer disease. Firestone made the recalled tires to Ford's specifications. They handle the load and speed needs that Ford told Firestone they needed. Firestone then reccomended the air-pressure to Ford who promptly ignored it and set the pressure to 26 psi! Now, from what you have seen of the Explorer, it seems to be a fairly good size vehicle. The Explorer weighs approximately 4000lbs. 26psi per tire just isn't enough for a vehicle that size
Maybe there is a problem with the build of the tire. Maybe the recall is justified. Maybe Ford should own up to their mistake and tell dealers to up the pressure to a more reasonable 30 to 35 psi. There is no sense in placing peoples (often childrens)lives in danger just for a softer ride. Now that you have the facts, go check your tires. E-Mail is good
